Rocco Bonzanigo, after attending school until his high school diploma in Lugano, graduated in law at the University of Geneva.
After completing his legal articling in Geneva and Basel, he was called to the Bar in Geneva. He then continued a postgraduate study and obtained a Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree at the University of B. Columbia, presenting a thesis in international tax law (Canadian Taxation of Business and Investment Income of Non-Residents, in European University Papers, Bern u. Frankfurt a. M.). He is also the holder of a civil law notary's diploma in Ticino.
After returning to Switzerland, he began working in the Firm of Ferruccio Bolla, of which he later became co-owner.
Rocco Bonzanigo was co-founder and partner at the Law Firm Bolla Bonzanigo & Associati (1982-2019); he is co-founder and partner at the Law Firm Collegal (since 2020).
His preferred areas of legal activity are commercial law in general and with particular attention to international aspects, procedural assistance in civil and commercial cases, banking, financial and corporate law, tax law, contracts in general. He was been also particularly active in the field of arbitration, in which he has acquired considerable experience, especially at international level, both for institutional or administered arbitration (International Chamber of Commerce - CCI/ICC - in Paris and National and International Arbitration Chamber in Milan) and ad hoc arbitration. He used to be a member of the committee of the Swiss Arbitration Association (ASA), of the Commission suisse d'arbitrage of the ICC, he has been a founder and a member of the committee of the ASA Group for Italian Switzerland (GASI) and is in relation with other institutions active in the field of arbitration. He presented the Arbitration Regulations of Lugano: chosen topics in "Ticino and law", published by the Swiss Society of Jurists.
He was also for several years the permanent rapporteur for Switzerland in the Working Group "International Contracts in Industry" of the Trade Development Committee of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UN-ECE), based in Geneva.
The customary practice of dealing with different legal cultures characterizes the international legal assistance provided by Rocco Bonzanigo, who works in his different roles as arbitrator, counsel and consultant fluently in Italian, English, French or German. Rocco Bonzanigo also possesses useful knowledge of Spanish and Portoguese.
Since 1984 he was co-editor and editor of the "Repertorio di giurisprudenza patria", the traditional Italian-language legal journal published in Switzerland until 2000.
His public duties include serving as a lay member of the Judiciary Council, the independent supervisory authority on the Canton judiciary, the function ended in 2006 (legal deadline), and the city councilman in his municipality of residence.
He has been serving for various foundations and societies of public interest and charities.
Rocco Bonzanigo speaks Italian, French, German and English. He also has good knowledge of Spanish and Portoguese. He is registered with the Ticino Bar Registry and admitted to practice in all Switzerland.
